Emergency Management at Wake Forest University takes a comprehensive approach to campus preparedness. We work diligently to develop, implement, and maintain plans and procedures that address all phases of the emergency management cycle: prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery. Our goal is to minimize the impact of emergencies on our students, faculty, staff, and visitors before, during, and after they occur, ensuring the continuity of our academic and operational missions, guided by our commitment to Pro Humanitate while being a catalyst for good.
Wake Alert
The Wake Alert system is the primary information source during an emergency at Wake Forest.
Emergency Response Structure
Incident Management Team
(IMT)
Representatives from all major functions of the University staff the IMT. The IMT is responsible for pre-event planning functions, operations during incidents and events, and post-incident/event evaluations. It is also organized around Emergency Support Services (ESS) that represent different areas/divisions of university operations.
Executive Leadership Team Expanded (ELT+)
The ELT+ is responsible for major strategic or policy-level decisions that affect University operations.
Deacs Ready
Deacs Prepared. Deacs Informed. Deacs READY.
The “Deacs Ready” program aims to promote campus preparedness through education, training, and outreach with the goal of cultivating a culture of preparedness for resilience.
- Participate in the Wake Alert Emergency Notification system.
- Download the
Wake Safe app. - Review Emergency Procedures for a variety of emergency situations, including shelter-in-place and building evacuation.
- Locate emergency resources, including fire exits, evacuation assembly areas, and automated external defibrillators (AED) locations for Reynolda Campus and off-campus.
Training & Education
- Students & Faculty/Staff groups can request more in-depth training on preparedness by completing the “Request Training” form.
- Faculty & Staff have access to the “Wake Alert Emergency Response Training” on demand through Workday Learning.
AAR Resources
The purpose of an After Action Review (AAR) is to identify lessons learned, best practices and recommendations for future planning, training, and exercise development.
AARs can be implemented for any event, whether planned or unplanned.
