Campus Life Strategic Directions

1. Lead a comprehensive approach to student and community wellbeing
- Integrate the Thrive initiative into all areas of campus and academic life to facilitate a campus culture shift to greater wellbeing
- Create or enhance peer education programs to address our most salient wellbeing challenges
- Promote and create infrastructure that supports wellbeing throughout campus departments, student groups, peer leader and student employee roles
- Leverage the Wake Forest Center for Wellbeing to meet campus needs for learning, engagement, and connection
- Provide opportunities for all students, faculty, and staff to learn about and demonstrate behaviors that are consistent with the eight dimensions of Thrive
- Provide national leadership for wellbeing in higher education

2. Cultivate an inclusive community where all students experience a sense of belonging.
- Develop multiple pathways that enable all students to identify and navigate engagement opportunities
- Identify under-involved students and develop ways to help them find a niche
- Leverage the residential living communities to help students form meaningful connections
- Promote and extend inclusive campus traditions and rituals
- Evaluate and strengthen orientation and pre-orientation programs for incoming students
- Evaluate and improve the ways in which campus policies, facilities, and systems support inclusion
- Expand and promote opportunities for students to learn and collaborate across differences

3. Prepare students to live and lead in a diverse environment with cultural humility.
- Facilitate opportunities for students and student organizations to examine complex issues from multiple perspectives and communicate across difference
- Create opportunities for students to identify their beliefs, values, and attitudes and adapt to diverse environments
- Develop and implement Diversity Action Plans for each Campus Life department
- Educate Campus Life staff and students regarding how to live out our shared values of diversity, equity, and social justice

4. Foster a culture of peer engagement, leadership, and accountability.
- Support the ongoing development of strong, effective, and inclusive student groups and organizations
- Engage students in the design and delivery of campus programs and projects to ensure student voice and relevance
- Encourage, promote and coordinate the application of bystander principles across the student experience to manage risks, confront potential harm, and extend care in our community
- Expand and enhance the application of a student leadership development model through employment and volunteer opportunities in order to empower student leaders to engage their peers, support career readiness, and develop transferable skills.
- Promote and support the growth of campus-wide peer education programs in order to foster leadership development, address key campus challenges, and ensure student-centered approaches

5. Advance operational excellence to support people, systems, and processes
- Implement strategies to attract and retain a diverse, talented workforce
- Identify and implement technology solutions that streamline processes and services
- Foster professional development to enrich the knowledge, skills and abilities of staff and ensure all are equipped to deliver division strategic directions and action plans
- Utilize assessment, relevant research, and benchmarking to foster continuous improvement and ensure access to, and effective use of, resources
- Monitor known risks to campus health and safety while developing strategies to prevent, mitigate, and respond to emergent concerns
- Communicate effectively about the work of the division internally, across campus, and externally
