At Wake Forest University, we can navigate the hard things, and we’ll be a stronger community when we embrace one another and the various views we hold. In the spirit of Pro Humanitate, I invite you to join us in embracing “Show Humanitate,” a powerful call to action that embodies our cherished motto.

Show Humanitate takes Pro Humanitate to heart. It’s not just about individual acts of service or leading with character; it’s about cultivating a way of life that reflects your genuine care for our community. This initiative sets a high standard for the words and actions you choose, grounding your efforts in the deeper motivations that drive you. It’s a commitment to the values that will guide you long after you leave the Forest.

In a world that often feels divided, Show Humanitate encourages you to extend your values in service of something greater than yourself. Our application of this principle is as boundless as the world’s need for compassion, understanding, and respect. Together, we can transform our campus and beyond by demonstrating kindness and empathy in our interactions. Small gestures of kindness can create ripples of positivity, fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and understood.

As you navigate today’s complex and often polarizing political landscape, you have the opportunity to redefine how you engage with differing perspectives, prioritizing respect and understanding above all. Prioritize respect and understanding, approaching every conversation with an open heart and mind.

This year, I encourage you to actively seek out opportunities for civil discourse and dialogue. Engage in conversations with peers who hold different viewpoints, and listen deeply to their experiences and feelings. Take the initiative to educate yourself on new policies, community issues, and the upcoming election. Participate in campus events focused on interfaith dialogue, civic engagement and political literacy. These efforts not only enhance your understanding but also exemplify what it means to Show Humanitate.

Let’s unite in our commitment to Show Humanitate, fostering a culture that truly reflects our values and enriches our community. Together, we can make a meaningful impact and lead lives with meaning and purpose.

Sincerely,

Shea Kidd Brown
