The Presidential Inauguration: Know Before You Go
Dear Students,
This Friday, Oct. 30, Wake Forest will celebrate a historic milestone as we officially inaugurate Dr. Peter Rodriguez as our 15th president! As students, you are an important part of this moment in Wake Forest’s history, and we hope you’ll join us for the events and celebrations happening right here on campus.
Whether you’re attending the Installation Ceremony in Wait Chapel or joining friends for the Community Celebration on Hearn Plaza, here’s what you need to know before you go!
Schedule of Events
Academic Symposium | 10-11:45 a.m. | Brendle Recital Hall, Scales Fine Arts Center
The day begins with an Academic Symposium, “The Questions We Haven’t Asked Yet: Curiosity, Inquiry, and the Questions That Shape Who We Become.” Students who would like to attend should register in advance.
Installation Ceremony | 3-4:30 p.m. | Wait Chapel
Be part of Wake Forest history as Dr. Rodriguez is formally installed as the University’s 15th president. Doors open at 2:15 p.m., and we encourage you to arrive early to allow time for security screening and seating. A livestream of the ceremony will also be available here.
Community Celebration | 6:30-9 p.m. | Hearn Plaza
The celebration continues on Hearn Plaza with an evening of live music, delicious food and opportunities to celebrate with friends and the Wake Forest community. The night will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display over Wait Chapel!
Getting Around Campus
If you live on campus, we encourage you to walk to Inauguration events whenever possible. With increased visitors and activity throughout the day, please allow extra time to navigate campus, particularly near Wait Chapel and Hearn Plaza.
Security and Prohibited Items
All attendees will be subject to a bag check before entering inauguration events. Please plan accordingly and leave prohibited items in your residence hall.
Prohibited items include: Alcohol, drones, mace/pepper spray, pets, tripods, umbrellas, weapons (including pocket knives) and anything deemed hazardous or unsafe by WFUPD, WSPD or event staff.
What to Wear
Academic Symposium and Installation Ceremony: Business attire is requested.
Community Celebration: Cocktail attire is encouraged, but don’t let your wardrobe keep you from celebrating! The event will take place outdoors on Hearn Plaza, so choose shoes that are comfortable for walking on grass and consider bringing a light layer for cooler evening temperatures. A coat check and blankets will be available.
